Class 225 & 226 - An Unexpected Double
After getting wrecked yesterday and losing my water bottle I was a little weary of class. Did I drink enough?
Did I put it all back?

I am worried about long-term dehydration.Lately I’ve been moving away from the left side in the afternoon. If I’m up for it I prefer to practice near either strong people or long time regulars. Maybe this is in reaction to the flood of newbies at the studio since Val started this $39 for a month of yoga promotion. It seems like every class has 3 newbies. It’s good for business and the more people that discover yoga the better. I mean, it can change your life. But every once in a while it’s nice to take a class where everyone knows what they’re doing and the class just flows. I’m glad Val has barred intro month people from taking 8am on the weekend, even if the main reason is those classes are super crowded already.

(Thursday 4:30pm - Erin)I was in a good mood because I finished grading one of my finals and I found out the South Pasadena Farmer’s market sells pesticide free cucumbers for $1. They are $2.49 at whole foods and $2.99 at Ralphs. I bought 10.

I think if people didn’t know me well they would think I’m a health nut but I’m not. I am certainly getting healtier though. Today was I decided to indulge:
trader joes broccoli and cheddar quiche
spinach pineapple banana smoothie
Large fries from mcdonalds (I added salt)
A quarter of a small bag of salt and vinegar potato chips (felt a little weird after the fries)
water
juice (cucumber, apple, celery)
more water
2 coconut waters
water
mac and cheese (why does mac and cheese that comes in shapes like spirals or cars or pretty much anything other than the standard seem to actually taste better? my theory is you get less macaroni so the cheese powder to pasta ratio is higher, enhancing the flavor factor.)
I walked into the studio and the first thing I saw was my water bottle behind the desk! Yay!!

The class was small and there were no newbies and it was great. Erin wasn’t used to having to teach people how to grab their foot and we were ahead of schedule. She did a demo. For the first time in over a week I could pick up my towel without having sweat stream from it. It was great. I did homework (leg lifts, side crunches, wall walks) for the first time in a long while. Body felt strong and nice and open.

So many people asked me if I was staying for another that I ended up staying for another.
(Thursday 6:30pm - Erin)

The energy in the room was good. I feel like in the afternoon classes I really depend on the the energy of the people around me. I wonder if it’s all in my head. I don’t think there were any newbies in this class either. There were a lot of regulars there and some strong newbies. I like it when someone is brand new and they come every day. I like the yoga nerds. I love the yoga crazies. Most of the yoga crazies become teachers, but I think I’m still on a upward trend as far as my practice goes and I still have a long ways to go and many more breakthroughs to experience. If I taught that would only get in the way. Erin said panini sandwich as opposed to grilled cheese sandwich. I don’t think she ever says japanese ham sandwich but I’m not sure.

Erin also said I’m ready to bend my elbows in standing forehead to knee. I still have to consciously flex my kicking leg ankle and I still need my hands to hold my foot up, but I decided to try bending the elbows. I would say it went ok. They didn’t bend very far. I don’t have long arms first of all and second of all my forward bends are terrible. I need to do more Yin and maybe I should step up the ab work. Anyway, it was as pleasant a back to back double as I’ve had in recent memory. An energizing double.

I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight.
